On the afternoon of May 5th, the 2026 Guangzhou Inter school Coffee Competition Alliance College Exchange Competition Hand made Coffee PK Competition was held at the main venue of the Guangzhou Coffee Culture Season, attracting many citizens and tourists to stop and watch.
The atmosphere on site was lively, with students from 12 universities including Sun Yat sen University, South China University of Technology, and Guangdong Vocational College of Foreign Languages and Arts competing on the same stage. In the first round of the competition, only one out of three contestants from each group wins and enters the second round. Liu Jingwei, a PhD student in computer science from South China University of Technology, shared, "I usually enjoy making handmade coffee and hope to exchange and learn through competitions." He joked that he had achieved his goal of entering the second round. In the end, he advanced to the third round and achieved a good result of fifth place.
Another student who exceeded expectations was Bai Shucong, a master's student at Sun Yat sen University. She won second place in the hand brewed coffee PK competition and first prize in the coffee all-around competition. She said that the humid weather on that day could easily lead to excessive extraction during the brewing process, so she consciously controlled the concentration of coffee in the filter cup and controlled the extraction of flavor substances by adjusting the powder amount and grinding degree.
The championship of the hand brewed coffee PK competition was won by He Hongzhe from Dongfang Vocational and Technical School in Zengcheng District, Guangzhou, who also won the third prize in the coffee all-around competition. He remained calm and composed during the competition, with a low-key and humble personality, and admitted that he still had a lot to learn. As a student majoring in the operation and management of high-end hotels, he is usually exposed to coffee related courses and has also served as the vice president of the coffee club. In the future, he hopes to continue studying hard and delve deeper into the field of coffee.

Bai Shucong also shared that before the competition, she was invited by the well-known foreign brand Standout Coffee to use her own brewing scheme to brew their coffee beans, which felt great. This time at the Guangzhou Coffee Culture Festival, she was able to communicate with people from different universities, industries, and countries. "It feels very interesting that everyone can find their favorite flavors here," she said. She praised the coffee atmosphere in Guangzhou, saying, "The baristas in Guangzhou are very creative and explore different flavors. When I walk around the streets, I always find many surprising small shops. I hope that our partners in the coffee industry in Guangzhou can continue to explore more production areas, processing methods, flavors, and possibilities
