In 1836, the first scent of coffee wafted from the Thirteen Rows Jingyuan Street in China, planting the cultural seeds of the fusion of Chinese and Western cultures for Guangzhou, a millennium old commercial city. 190 years later, Guangzhou baristas stood on the highest podium of the World Coffee Competition, stunning the world with their local coffee strength. From "imported goods" to "daily life of neighbors", this drink has undergone a deep localization transformation in Guangzhou, a millennium old commercial city. The 2026 Guangzhou Coffee Culture Season has ignited a consumption boom throughout the city. According to the latest data from Meituan, in just two months, Guangzhou has added 376 new coffee shops, and the booming consumer enthusiasm is being translated into real market expansion.

Nowadays, Guangzhou is the second city in China in terms of the number of coffee stores, with a total of over 8000 stores in the city. A complete coffee industry chain with an annual output value of 67 billion yuan is quietly operating, directly driving employment for over 150000 people, and the daily consumption of freshly brewed coffee reaches 2 million cups. Behind the numbers lies a unique coffee development path in Guangzhou: not only in the development of industry scale, but also in the dual efforts of "integrated innovation" and "professional breakthroughs".

Not long ago, the global finals of the Brussels World Coffee and Spirits Competition in Belgium came to an end, and Guangzhou barista Liu Zhanhong won the championship in one fell swoop, becoming the first Chinese player to win the global championship of the competition. He set an impressive record of the highest score and complete victory in the history of the competition, demonstrating the professional strength and innovative ideas of Cantonese coffee to the world.

Liu Zhanhong's cross-border pursuit of dreams is also a true reflection of Guangzhou coffee artisans' deep cultivation and pursuit of excellence.

Before entering the cross-border market, Liu Zhanhong had long been deeply involved in the financial sector and had no interaction with the coffee industry. Due to his passion for breaking out of his comfort zone, he rooted himself in Guangzhou and started from scratch, starting from a grassroots position in a street caf é, dedicating himself to polishing brewing techniques and accumulating industry experience. Through daily practice, he has developed a solid professional foundation. When competing in international competitions, Liu Zhanhong broke the traditional paradigm of Western style coffee and cleverly incorporated local dried lychee white, blending Lingnan style with professional techniques to create entries with unique Eastern charm, stunning the world with the charm of Cantonese coffee.

The atmosphere of solidarity and mutual achievement in the Guangzhou coffee circle is a solid foundation for the growth of craftsmen. During Liu Zhanhong's preparation for the competition, previous Chinese champion Qiu Jianming personally coached and empowered him, while Chinese champion baristas such as Ma Zhenxing and Wang Jianning baked the competition beans for free and provided full assistance throughout the process.
