CCTV News (Reporter Ou Jixian) In recent years, Yunnan's coffee industry has achieved a transformation from "raw material supply" to "brand output" through quality upgrading, policy empowerment, and international layout, while consolidating the local market and accelerating its overseas expansion. According to statistics from Kunming Customs, in the first half of this year, Yunnan Province exported coffee and coffee products worth 650 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 8.4%, ranking first in the country in terms of export scale, and exporting to 34 countries and regions including the Netherlands, Germany, and Vietnam.

Yunnan is located in the golden belt of coffee cultivation, with a planting history of over 130 years. The main coffee producing areas are distributed in six provinces and cities, including Pu'er, Baoshan, Lincang, Dehong, Xishuangbanna, and Nujiang. In recent years, the production and quality of coffee in Yunnan have significantly improved. By the end of 2024, the coffee planting area in Yunnan Province was 1.267 million mu, with a yield of 146000 tons; The agricultural output value is nearly 5 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 13%. Yunnan's premium coffee production is 46000 tons, an increase of 11000 tons from 2023. The quality of Yunnan coffee has been improving year by year, and the demand for Yunnan coffee in overseas markets is also constantly increasing.

Yunnan Baoshan Small Grain Coffee Industrial Park

The success of "Yunka" is attributed to the development path of refinement, intensification, and branding. Baoshan City is the earliest area to industrialize coffee cultivation, and the small grain coffee here is considered to be "strong but not bitter, fragrant but not strong, and slightly fruity"; Dehong Prefecture, with its natural advantages of high altitude and long sunshine, has nurtured many high-quality varieties; In 2024, the coffee planting area in Lincang City will reach over 230000 acres, with a fresh coffee production of nearly 120000 tons. It has been awarded the titles of "China Lincang Premium Coffee Bean Demonstration Zone" and "China Premium Coffee Core Production Area".

The improvement of Yunnan coffee quality has also been recognized by international professional competitions. In May 2025, the first Yunnan Treasure Coffee Green Bean Competition was successfully held in Baoshan, Yunnan. The top 10 premium bean noodles were auctioned offline to global buyers.

However, the international market not only has high requirements for the variety and flavor of coffee, but also has more stringent testing requirements for pesticide residues, heavy metal content, and so on. From the source control of coffee cultivation to standardized management of production and operation, every link is closely related to product quality. In the export process, Kunming Customs actively responds to the needs of enterprises, relying on the "Customs Enterprise Direct Train" service mechanism to provide "one-on-one" technical guidance for enterprises on planting soil environment monitoring, scientific fertilization, etc. Regular monitoring and early warning of pests and diseases, and guidance on green prevention and control are carried out to ensure the stable quality of each batch of coffee beans from the source. At the same time, Kunming Customs actively guides enterprises to implement an international standardized management system, establish a full process quality traceability mechanism from the field to the market, and assist in the standardized and regulated development of Yunnan's coffee export industry, transforming "hard standards" into "soft power" to promote the transformation of Yunnan's coffee industry from "quantity" to "quality".

In order to ensure the efficient and smooth export channels of coffee, promote the expansion of the international market of "Yunpin", and continuously improve Yunnan's level of opening up to the outside world, Mangshi Customs is also continuously strengthening the construction of laboratory testing capabilities, building a "coffee quality and safety testing system" that includes more than 100 parameters such as pesticide and heavy metal residues, microbial contamination, etc., and promoting the improvement and efficiency of testing work. On the premise of ensuring that coffee beans meet international standards, the testing time is maximized.

Zhang Mingwei, the head of the Comprehensive Business Department of Mangshi Customs, introduced: "We continue to optimize the customs clearance process, implement the 'report, review, and certificate issuance' work mode, promote the use of 'cloud issuance' and self-service printing functions for certificates of origin, efficiently process certificates of origin, plant quarantine certificates and other documents, and press the 'acceleration button' for coffee exports." In the first half of 2025, Mangshi Customs issued a total of 39 certificates of origin for exported coffee, estimated to reduce import tariffs by more than 1.2 million yuan.

From seeds to cups "is not only the journey of coffee beans, but also a vivid portrayal of Yunnan's coffee industry moving from traditional agriculture to modern and international brands.
